Description

Responsible for providing a safe, fun, educational and engaging canopy tour/climbing experience at The Summit Bechtel Reserve.

Situated in the wilds of West Virginia, The Summit is a training, Scouting, and adventure center for the millions of youth and adults involved in Scouting America and anyone who loves the outdoors. The Summit Bechtel Reserve is also home to the National Scout Jamboree and the Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base which complements the three existing bases: Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier and Florida Sea Base.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and helpful attitude to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Provide instruction in climbing and rappelling techniques to participants.
  • Provide first line supervision of climbing activities during operations.
  • Become familiar with all the proper gear supplied prior to the camping season
  • Become thoroughly familiar with all information relative to the climbing and rappelling facilities
  • Participate in the specialized program training during the staff training period.
  • Continue on-the-job training throughout the season
  • Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership
  • Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook
Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to complete Guide Training and assessment (provided)
  • Preferred: Possess current First Aid and CPR and AED certification
  • Preferred: BSA C.O.P.E. Level 1 or 2 Instructor Certification (training provided)
  • Preferred: Experience guiding/facilitating and managing others
  • Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination
  • Be or become a registered member of Scouting America
